Kathleen finds being a Movin’ and Groovin’ instructor the perfect way to combine her experience as a local singer with her background in the medical field. With over 25 years of health care experience, Kathleen appreciates the value of developing a rapport with seniors. And as a professional singer, she finds music a wonderful way to connect with people of all backgrounds and ages. It not only draws people in, it makes them want to move.
Aside from her health care background, Kathleen’s personal life has given her a close-up view of what life is like when family members have special needs. Having cared for her own severely disabled child, Kathleen learned that the greatest rewards often come in the smallest of steps. This lesson proved valuable when her father suffered memory impairment following a head injury and her mother-in-law began showing signs of Alzheimer’s. It’s taught her that each situation has its own set of challenges and rewards and it’s important to keep the right perspective. With the right approach and a positive attitude, interactions can be enriching for everyone involved.
Kathleen is an EIGHT-TIME Detroit Music Award nominee. She continues to perform in local clubs, festivals, and private events – most often with her horn-driven, 9-piece classic soul band. But you might also catch her fronting her 5-piece blues band or her duo.
When Kathleen is on stage, she understands the importance of connecting with her audience. She’s developed a reputation for “working the room” to make the audience realize they are a critical part of the performance. It’s as though every show is a party and the whole audience is invited. She brings this same attitude and enthusiasm to her Movin’ and Groovin’ classes.
As an 8 time Detroit music award nominee, Kathleen is busy with her band singing all over the metro Detroit area. She is a favorite!
