Singing is a natural facet of me. One of my earliest memories was singing the song "Sunny" in our kitchen while my mom was cooking dinner at the age of 3! While in the second grade, my sisters and I formed a group called "The Adams Sisters". Our big song was "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing." My mother made our skirts...mine was always blue. In high school, my sister Lisa got the lead in the play, and she was so great, I thought I'd try it too. I joined my first band at 16. I'll never forget my first paying gig...we played the same 10 songs over and over! So much has changed since those early years, yet I'm still using my voice non stop. I can't believe I've been doing this for so long...
I'm priviledged to have worked with some of the top bands in Detroit consistently. However, there is only one group of people who know my dirt and stick with me anyway. My dear friends in the Doug Cassens Band are my weekend family. Click on "THE FELLAS" to learn more about these special men.
For me, recording is a creative and fun thing to do. Over the years, I've recorded several radio and TV commercials both in the studio and on camera. The Turner Classic Movie Channel showed my 30 second spot before every movie for years. The "Think Ford First" radio jingle is still being played...for almost 10 years now! Wright and Fillipis Healthcare is another jingle that is currently aired regularly. I've also spoken hundreds and hundreds of telephone on hold ads for businesses all over the country. I've got some really talented songwriter friends. It's been awesome to help them create thier music.
I've been singing national anthems since my teens. I really enjoy singing for our veterans, and my friends in the Republican Party at their special events. I spent two years as the chosen soloist for the Detroit Rockers Soccer team, and that was great fun. Of course, my all time favorite sports team is the Detroit Tigers. I have been with the baseball club longer than any other performer and have sung hundreds of anthems for them. Click on "ANTHEMS" to learn more.
The emotional release of singing is therapeutic for me. I aspire to move people on a deeper level, and I often get to do this when I sing in church. I know I've reached them when I can see them wiping thier eyes. (A friend of mine and fellow musician Tom Treece once told me, "What comes from the heart, reaches the heart". How true)
My music career has allowed me the opportunity to be there daily as a mom for my children, which is most important to me. I have been able to travel, meet interesting people, challenge my creativity, and reach out to others. Although it's great to generate an income doing this, for me it has never been about building a fan base or getting a record deal. I just feel very blessed to still be doing what I love to do.
